​​These paintings were made after spending many hours watching Otters on the shore of the Loch of Stenness and snorkelling in the shallow waters of the inlet that links the loch to the sea.

The Otters living in the loch enjoy the benefits of the secluded banks for undisturbed shelter, freshwater inflow from streams and field drains, and an ubundance of small fish, regularly replenished by the tidal flow from the sea.
